Many people think they know what to do if they get lost while camping or hiking yet hundreds each year wander off into the woods unprepared, finding that they do not have the tools that they need to survive in the wild. Of course a camping trip can be an extremely enjoyable and special experience provided you are well prepared and are armed with all the camping gear necessities to see you through till you return home.
Always dress appropriately in layers for winter camping. Beginners are advised to choose camping locations closer to home so that is easier to fall back in case they face any problems. Local guides will be able to tell you which plants are good to eat and which are not, and will even be able to tell you what kinds of animals are prevalent in your area, increasing your chances of setting the right traps or of hunting the right spots.
A good flashlight's size is relatively small and does not take up space at all. Ropes and other equipment and gear used for climbing and survival are necessary. On the other hand if you are parked in the wilderness, beware of insects and animals lurking around.
You should also develop a routine for keeping your feet dry and comfortable. So always be prepared and try to get into shape before you take on to big of a trail.
